Upon its founding in 1999, the name of the convention was East Texas Baptist State Convention and the first president was Reverend D.C. Brown, who served from 1999 to 2007. During the first year of his first four-year term, the name of the convention was changed to Texas Educational Baptist State Convention to give the convention a broader scope of operation. The second president was Reverend Charles Faulks, who served from 2008 to 2015. The third president of Texas Educational Baptist Convention was Dr. S. L. Curry, Jr., who served from 2016 to 2023. Dr. James Johnson currently serves as the president of the convention.
